Mom Confession: I Don’t Encourage “Believing” In Santa Claus

Before you get your boxers or panties in a bunch, I don’t strip away the joy of Xmas for my children. I don’t outright say “Santa Claus is FAKE!” or any other nonsense. I actually don’t say anything to them at all `about Santa Claus. I will not keep up the charades of Santa Claus coming in this household for the pleasure of my opinionated peers. I merely celebrate Xmas like those who know he is FAKE and our holiday is AWESOME every year.

In my house, I treat Santa Claus like I treat cartoon characters. They are fun fictional characters — nothing more, nothing less.

Now that I think of it I don’t even put up any Santa decor.

I don’t have the energy to convince my children for years that this character is “REAL.” I don’t put presents under the tree that are from Santa. I don’t make it look like he paid a visit to our house the night before Christmas. I don’t do all that “fun stuff” some of you all do, and I kid you not my kids are just as happy waking up Christmas morning.

To be honest, I don’t think kids care who their presents come from on Xmas day. I think they more so care about receiving them period.

A lot of people have the opinion that not letting your kids believe in Santa Claus strips away their childhood. I am here to say my children have EXCELLENT childhoods. They go on fun vacations yearly, have fantastic birthday parties and does fun kid stuff on a daily basis. So not believing in Santa Claus hasn’t stopped any fun over here.  They are still excited for Xmas just like any other child. They always shout “look there goes Santa Claus” when we are out and about in December. They are still allowed to take pictures with Santa if they request and so on.

Am I raising terrorizer who will go to school and break the news to your little one? No. However, I CHOSE not to let my kids “believe” that Santa Claus is a real figure and I respect the parents that allow theirs to believe that he is.

At the end of the day. To each its own.

Cheers, Merry Christmas and let mothers like me be.
