How To Maintain Your Milk Supply

PUMP/FEED

First and foremost you have to empty those breast. Pumping and feeding regularly will help your body to know that milk needs to be produced.  The less you feed/pump, the less you produce. It’s that simple. 

DE STRESS

Stress can cause a HUGE dip in your milk supply. Try to practice self care to destress yourself.  Here are 50 Ways to Practice Self Care

Water

Breastmilk is made up of mainly water. You have to consume it to help your body produce it. Increasing your water intake will not only help your milk stay afloat but it will be great for your skin, hair and overall health. Don’t go overboard. Food

Food fuels your body to help create energy.  You need to eat to keep your body fueled to help produce that lovely liquid gold.  Choose healthier snack options like apples, rice cakes, eating a healthier dinner option.

Sleep

Sleep is just another self care act that provides benefits to your body. When you feel well rested you feel good, energized and ready to take on the day.

Gatorade

Myth or fact? I have been told and convinced that gatorade helps with maintaining your milk supply.  It gives your body that extra boost of hydration and helps produce a little more milk.  When my supply is low I tend to drink a blue gatorade. Gatorade will not make you supply increase, however it will help maintain it.

Eat Oatmeal

Oatmeal has what’s known as saponins in the oats, which may increase the hormones moms need to produce milk. So we have been told. I found that when I ate oatmeal every morning my milk supply was at its best. I went a month without eating it and I noticed a slight change in my supply and let down.

Power pumping can help your body produce more milk.

Power Pumping consist of…

  • Pumping for 20 minutes

  • Rest for 10 minutes,

  • Pump for 10 minutes

  • Rest for 10 minutes

  • Pump for 10 minutes

Repeating this 3x a day throughout the day for 3 days.

Maintaining your milk supply consist of A LOT of work. Water consumption and pumping/feeding frequently should be your main focus. Empty your breast so your body knows to make more milk. Hydrate yourself and remeber not to stress. You got this!
